Brest plans to hold a culture run in 2027, BelTA learned from the sports department of the Brest Oblast Executive Committee.
Running for a healthy lifestyle and good physical shape is growing in popularity in Brest Oblast. This interest among local residents is encouraged in the region. “We intend to build on the runs we already have. These are the Run of the First, Zubr Fest race, Zhyrandolya in Baranovichi, and Malorita Marathon. There are plans to hold a culture run in Brest. We are working on this idea with the team of organizers,” the sports department said, describing the concept.
Sports events of this format have never been held in Brest Oblast before. The culture run includes visits to museums, and it does not require closing streets to traffic. “It is gaining great popularity in the running community in Russia. We understand that it will be of interest here as well. This is not a run in the usual format. People cover the distance, and when they run into a museum, they switch to a walk and view the exhibition there. Coming back out onto the street, they continue running along the route,” the sports department explained.
The run, which allows participants to see their hometown from a different angle, could be of interest to Brest residents. It also offers an excellent opportunity to promote the regional center as a tourist destination allowing guests to stay active while getting a feel for the local culture.
This is not the only idea for running enthusiasts that Brest Oblast is working on. “We will hold a run during the regional winter festival Beresteyskie Sani in January. We think it will gain in popularity, since there are currently few runs in winter in Belarus,” the sports department emphasized.
Incidentally, this coming weekend, on 10 October, Malorita International Marathon will be held for the 43rd time. More than 1,000 people will take to the start line. It is part of the Running League project of the Belarusian Athletics Federation.
