BREST, 20 December (BelTA) – As long as we remember the heroes of the Great Patriotic War, we will have peace in Belarus, head of the working group for the nationwide social and cultural campaign Marathon of Unity Anna Lukashenko told the media after the event Don't Wake Up the Sleeping Soldiers in Brest Fortress, BelTA has learned.
"It is certainly important for us to remember this for a simple reason: as long as we remember, w will have peace in our country. We certainly should tell our children everything that our grandparents and great-grandparents told us, so that our children can keep the memory and peace on earth, preserve and pass this knowledge to their children. As long as we remember who we are, as long as we remember and are grateful to those people who won the Victory, preserved our country, gave us and our children the gift of life, we will be alive, Belarus will be alive and everything will be fine," Anna Lukashenko said.

She pointed out that there is not a single Belarusian family that does not have its own story related to the Great Patriotic War. "Belarusians, like no one else, suffered the worst from the war. Probably, this is why we cherish this memory like no one else. I am sure that we will be able to preserve this memory forever," Anna Lukashenko emphasized.

She noted that there is nothing more honest and valuable than feedback and impressions of the participants of the event, especially young people. "The idea of the event was realized in the way it was initially conceived. I am very grateful to the director of the event, the head of Brest Puppet Theater Tamara Ivanovna Pavliukovich for supporting the idea. The event featured a poem by Brest author, which, unfortunately, is not so popular, but it is directly connected with this place, the Ceremonial Square. It is very valuable," Anna Lukashenko noted. She also thanked the city and regional authorities for their support in organizing the campaign.

Brest is hosting the first day of the nationwide social and cultural campaign Marathon of Unity. The campaign kicked off in the Ceremonial Square in the Brest Fortress. It is a symbolic and significant place for every Belarusian. The campaign brought together representatives of the regional and district executive committees, artists, servicemen, bloggers and the public.
