Zhabinka district is contiguous, within the bounds of the republic, with the Malorita, Brest, Kobrin and Kamenets districts of the Brest region. Administratively the district is divided into 8 rural Councils: Zhabinkovslij, Krivlianskij, Leninskij, Ozjatskij, Rakitnitskij, Stepankovskij, Khmelevskij, Yakovchitskij.

Zhabinka is the centre of district, is located at the flowing the river Zhabinka into the river Muhavets. It is a large railway junction (directions to Brest, Luninets, Baranovichi). As of 1, January, 2004 12,8 thousand people live in the city, that is a half of the population of the district (there are in all district 25,3 thousand inhabitants). Railway highways Brest–Moscow, Brest-Gomel and highways Brest-Moscow, Brest-Slonim, Kamenets-Fedjkovichi cross the district.

Officially the year of Zhabinka foundation is 1871 and it was arisen in connection with the construction of the railway Moscow – Brest, though the first written mentions of settlement with the name Zhabinka are dated 1816. As time goes by the city has grown up and has included the settlements counting their history from 16-17th centuries. In 1939 Zhabinka was a part of BSSR. On January, 15, 1940 Zhabinka became the centre of the same district, and in April 1952 - city settlement.

On August, 8, 1959 the Zhabinka district has been broken up and restored in present borders on July, 30, 1966. The status of the city Zhabinka has received on December, 23, 1970.
